WSL FORACCA Team at COP17 Biodiversity 2026 in Yerevan ¶
Marco Pütz, Dirk Karger, Nickolai Denisov, Tobias Kühnhanss and Dominik Braunschweiger are returning to Yerevan from October 22nd - October 31st 2026 to meet with project partners and stakeholders, conduct field visits and participate in the COP17 Biodiversity Yerevan 2026.
The conference is a big opportunity for WSL and the FORACCA project - both to incorporate WSL's scientific expertise more strongly into international decision-making as well as to showcase the project results so far, raise the profile of the project and support its further implementation. WSL's participation in the conference was also featured in a recent WSL News article.
The WSL FORACCA team is organizing four side events in the COP17 Green Zone and participating in four additional side events organized by project partners such as the Forest Alliance Armenia and the American University Armenia. For a full list of the events the WSL FORACCA team is involved in, please consult the FORACCA COP17 2026 Side Events Calendar.
WSL and AUA FORACCA Summer School September 2026 ¶
As part of the ongoing academic cooperation between WSL and AUA and in the context of the AUA road to COP17 initiative, WSL and AUA are co-organizing a summer school covering topics such as urban biodiversity, forest conservation and restoration, nature-based solutions, forest landscape restoration, disaster resilience, forest planning and management, agroforestry, and biodiversity-friendly farming.
The summer school starts September 19th 2026 and lasts until September 26th 2026. It offers up to thirty Armenian students from the American University Armenia (AUA) and other Armenian universities a survey of biodiversity conservation approaches and tools to aid in the development of a knowledgeable volunteer corps, which is paramount in the lead-up to COP17.
Participating in the summer school will count towards satisfying the requirements of the Biodiversity Ambassadors Program offered by the Armenian University Coalition for Biodiversity and GYBN Armenia.
